Safety is an eternal theme of industrial production. In order to upgrade the application of industrial explosion protection technology and popularize the knowledge of explosion protection and safety in China, in accordance with the requirements set for the ¡°Nation-wide Safe Production Month¡± this year, 2002 International Industrial Explosion Protection Equipment Exhibition and 2002 International Conference on Industrial Explosion Protection Technologies ¡ª the first grand event of the industrial explosion protection and safety field in China was staged at Shanghai Exhibition Center on June 11 to 14, 2002, cosponsored and organized by Shanghai Institute of Process Automation Instrumentation (SIPAI); National Supervision and Inspection Center for Explosion Protection and Safety of Instrumentation (NEPSI) and Shanghai Industry and Commerce Exhibition Co., Ltd. (SICEC) .

 

Explosion protection and safety is a systems engineering, concerning design, certification, manufacture, installation, application and maintenance of the explosion protection equipment. This exhibition and Conference was aimed to popularize the knowledge of explosion protection and safety, promote the advancement of industrial explosion protection technology in China, reveal the world latest developing trends of the technology, create business and co-operation opportunities and establish platforms for comprehensive technical co-operation by direct communications between manufacturers, designing organizations, end-users and testing and verification organizations.

The holding of the Exhibition and Conference was fully supported by the State Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, Shanghai Municipal Economic Commission, National Chemical Industry Automatic Control Design Technology Center, Automatic Control Design Technology Center Under China Petrochemical Corporation, Shanghai Supervision Bureau for Production Safety, Shanghai Bureau for Quality and Technical Supervision. Mr. Yang Fu, Director of Information and Technical equipment Department of the State Administration for Production Safety, Mr. Wu Jinsheng, Deputy director of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Supervision Bureau under State Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, Mr. Yu Guosheng, Deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Economic Commission made important speech separately at the conference, and had high opinion of and affirmed the Exhibition and Conference.

This Exhibition and Conference has attracted more attention of the explosion protection circle of the world. There were totally 88 manufacturers from Germany, United States, Switzerland, Singapore, Japan, England, as well as from Hong Kong, and Taiwan regions and other 11 provinces and municipalities of the country participating in the exhibition and setting up 150 booths.

  

The 2002 International Conference on Industrial Explosion Protection Technologies, with the theme of ¡°The developing trends of technologies and their explorations in the field of explosion protection and safety in the new century¡± was attended by more than 150 audience from designing institutes, research institutes, petrochemical plants and manufactories of electrical apparatus for use in explosive atmosphere throughout the country. Experts from IEC, CENELEC and Germany, Switzerland, United States, China and etc. presented ten specific reports at the conference concerning standardization and development trends of the explosion protection technology and their explorations, and design, certification, manufacture, installation, application and management of the explosion protection equipment.  

  

To fully embody the purpose of the exhibition and conference, a gallery for popularizing industrial explosion protection technology was set up at the exhibition site to show and explain, with illustrative pictures and compendious words, ¡°Basic knowledge of explosion protection¡±, ¡°Type of explosion protection for electrical apparatus¡±, ¡°Intrinsic safety technology¡±, ¡°Intrinsic safety system¡±, ¡°Installation and maintenance of explosion protection equipment¡±, and ¡°Development of explosion protection technology in China¡±.  Meanwhile, a conference was held during the exhibition to release national key petroleum and chemical engineering projects in year 2002 to 2003 period.  Experts from National Chemical Industry Automatic Control Design Technology Center and Automatic Control Design Technology Center Under China Petrochemical Corporation were invited to present new and rebuilding or extending projects in petroleum, chemical, oil refining and chemical fertilizer industries etc. in next two years, and propose comments, suggestions and requirements on product quality and quality management of the manufacturers of electrical apparatus for use in explosive atmosphere.
